Farragut State Park is a very popular campground in our area. It is only a 30-minute drive from our home. To camp there, reservations must be made months in advance, which we did about 6 months in advance. Our plan to have a week of chill, my daughter and I, with family and friends visiting throughout the week.
We were fortunate to have a site (Waldron campground) that was at the end and did not have campers on both sides of us. The sites are nice size, but if you plan to have more than 8 people a double site is much better. If we go again, I’ll reserve site 184; it sits on the edge of the forest and it’s plenty big for a large group.
We had friends and family come and go all week. We also had some quiet days with just the two of us.
We had our e-bikes, thankfully. Our first ride was down to Beaver Bay. We loved the bike trails that adorn all of Farragut. Instead of following the main road we took the bike trail, then connected to the side road down to Beaver Bay. I was initially concerned that we wouldn’t make it back up the hill even with the e-bike, but it was not an issue at all. My daughter loved the bay and really enjoyed swimming. It is breathtaking with aqua green water surrounded with treed mountains.
My husband stayed for the weekend, and we did more biking. We discovered a lot of new trails. The highlight for me was a bike ride into the nearest town, Bayview. We rode the trails most of the way, again mostly downhill. Bayview has a lot of floating houses that frame the lake. We chose to eat at the Lake House, the floating restaurant. It was delicious. We ordered the summer Greek salad, the Cowboy burger, and the Philly cheesesteak. I will go again.
Our campground had nice bathrooms with showers. The roads were all paved so biking, and skating was easy. Most campers had dogs, and lots of children played around us. At night, the stars were lovely, we enjoyed sitting under them with a campfire for smores.
Overall, we had an amazing time and I’d do it again!
